Recipe Heritage ("we," "our," or "us") is operated by Saga Guild LLC, a Minnesota limited liability company. We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website and application at recipeheritage.app (the "Service").

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

• Account information: Your email address and password when you create an account.
• Recipe content: Photographs of recipe cards you upload, and the transcribed recipe data (title, ingredients, directions, heritage notes, tags, and serving information) generated from those photographs.
• Payment information: Billing details entered during checkout. Note: We do not store payment card numbers. Payment processing is handled by Lemon Squeezy (see Section 5).

Information Collected Automatically

• Log data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps when you interact with the Service.
• Usage data: Features you use, recipes you create, and actions you take within the app.
• Device information: Device type, operating system, and browser version.

Information from Third Parties

• Subscription data: When you subscribe to Recipe Heritage Premium, Lemon Squeezy provides us with your subscription status and customer identifier so we can activate your premium access.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and manage your account
• Provide and improve the Recipe Heritage Service
• Transcribe your recipe card photographs using AI (see Section 4)
• Process payments and manage your subscription
• Send transactional emails (account confirmation, receipts, password resets)
• Respond to your support requests and questions
• Monitor and analyze usage patterns to improve the Service
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your recipe content to train AI models. We do not send marketing emails without your consent.

4. AI Transcription & Anthropic

Recipe Heritage uses Claude, an AI model developed by Anthropic, PBC, to transcribe handwritten recipe card photographs into structured text. When you upload a photograph, it is transmitted to Anthropic's API for processing.

Anthropic's use of data submitted through the API is governed by their Privacy Policy and API Terms of Service. Anthropic does not use API inputs and outputs to train their models by default.

Your recipe photographs are transmitted solely for the purpose of transcription and are not stored by Recipe Heritage beyond the immediate processing request.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information and recipe data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your recipes and personal information will be permanently deleted from our database within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

You may delete individual recipes at any time through the app. Deleted recipes are removed immediately and cannot be recovered.

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:

• HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
• Row-level security (RLS) in our database, ensuring users can only access their own data
• Secure authentication managed by Supabase Auth
• Environment variable protection for all API keys and secrets

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
• Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information and account.
• Portability: Request your recipe data in a portable format (available through our export features).
• Objection: Object to certain processing of your personal information.

9. Children's Privacy

Recipe Heritage is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately and we will take steps to delete it.

10. Cookies

Recipe Heritage uses essential cookies and session tokens to maintain your logged-in state and provide the Service. These are strictly necessary for the app to function and cannot be disabled while using the Service. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify you by email or by displaying a prominent notice in the app. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
